“A common sense approach to finding a software partner you can trust.”
Sounds fake right? But I’m serious.
When you’re looking for a new software tool, you’re really looking to solve a problem. Or a bunch of problems. And most of the time when companies sell to you it can feel like smoke and mirrors; i.e. it can be hard to trust if the company is actually going to solve your problem(s). Most of the time you’re not getting information that is tangible.
It’s easy to say you’re the best, and it’s easy to use industry jargon. Hey, we’re all in the business of sales at some level, right? But how do you know that after you sign your partner is going to deliver on that value?
You’ve got to get your head out of the details and the what ifs and just go back to basics.

It’s hard right? In this day and age, we can’t tell what is real and what is AI generated. And metrics can be skewed, for instance, what does boasting 100,000 users really mean if the tool slows them all down?
When enterprise purchases are so costly, you can’t really trust those numbers. So again, how do you find a partner who is who they say they are?
Look for a partner that doesn’t hide what they have.
A good partner will not avoid accountability to you. Their value should be tangible and deliverable, and their interests should be aligned with yours. And if that value is real, unique, and competitive then they should be eager to share it with you.
So, look for a partner who is not afraid to show you exactly what they have and how to use it. After all, if they’re truly the best then they should be able to compete with the rest, right?
And look for a partner who doesn’t hide their pricing. Why would you hide the price of your product? Because it’s likely higher than the competition and they need to work extra hard to convince you.
Look for a partner that makes it easy to leave.
The days of large enterprise purchases are coming to an end, and Saas (software-as-a-service) has changed the game.
What’s worse than committing +6 figures to a new software tool, only to find out it won’t work for you?
Finding out you’re stuck with it for minimum 3-6 years. And waving goodbye to your ROI.
When you onboard with a Saas company, you know that if it’s unworkable you at least have an exit plan to stop the bleeding.
Again, if your partner can truly deliver on their promise of value, then why would they worry about you leaving? Look for a company that spells it out for you, and gives you a clear offramp if needed.
Look for a partner that listens to their customers.
My bet is that its not too hard for you to think of a few companies you do business with that leave you feeling unheard or frustrated.
It sucks.
And when your business is on the line you need a partner that understands the meaning of partnership. A good partner understands that your needs are evolving and they need to evolve with you in order to meet those needs.
So, Look for a partner who wants to hear what you have to say so they can improve their product.
At the end of the day your success is our success, and a good partner engages with you.
